David Rosenak: untitled (Plaid Pantry)

For twenty-five years, David Rosenak has closely observed the cityscape defined by the locations of his workplace, home, and studio in the Buckman section of southeast Portland. Though the subject may appear limited—the narrow physical range of places, as well as the grayscale palette the artist uses for all his paintings—what Rosenak offers is the unlimited ability to see deeply and evoke meaning within these parameters.

The 194-page paperback book reproduces paintings from the exhibit untitled (Plaid Pantry): Paintings by David Rosenak at the Portland Art Museum, March 25–July 28, 2023. It includes an introduction by curator Grace Kook-Anderson, interview with the artist and Harrell Fletcher, preparatory drawings, and additional documentation.
